That is why God says in the Scriptures, “Awake, O sleeper, and rise up from the dead; and Christ shall give you light.”So be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools; be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to find out and do whatever the Lord wants you to. Ephesians 5:14-17 TLB
To say we are living in difficult days seems to be an understatement. But considering these words were penned by Paul over 2000 years ago, it seems like difficult days have been a part of life for a long time. And apparently people reacted to the difficulties the same way we do today. We let them get to us. We begin to feel hopeless, we become complacent and we stop engaging in life. We become spectators instead of participants and we begin to exist rather than thrive.
What we listen to and watch have a profound impact on us and we don’t even realize it. The enemy is skilled at lulling us into a passiveness that dulls and suppresses us spritually. But what hope does the world have, if those of us who have entered into an empowering relationship with Jesus just sit by waiting for Him to call us to heaven? When we ask Jesus to become our Savior and Lord, we become empowered with His Holy Spirit to show others who He truly is so they will want to begin a relationship with Him too.
Let’s listen to the Scripture and wake up! Jesus is giving us the light to help us see clearly every opportunity that is before us to show others the goodness of our God. For Romans 2:4 tells us it’s the goodness of God that leads to repentance. That same light will give us the wisdom to see God’s will and purpose for each of us, so we can live out the life we were created for, to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
