Bethany was about two miles from Jerusalem. John 11:18
What happened on the Wednesday after Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem is unknown. Most theologians believe since Monday He cleared the Temple and Tuesday He was teaching that ended with the Olivet Discourse, He used the day to rest.
His favorite place to “get away” from the crowds was Bethany. Not only was a short distance from Jerusalem, but His friends Mary, Martha, Lazarus and Simon the Leper whom He healed. What a better place to be than with people who love you after you’ve had two full days of crowds and are facing being betrayed and sold by one of your inner circle, arrested,, tortured, hung on a cross and buried for three days.
Jesus is our example and He showed us how important it is to take time to rest and get away from the press of the world around us. He also showed us that He lived His Word in Genesis 2:18 that it is not good for man to be alone. If Jesus needed these in His life how much more do we?
