Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matt 26:27-29 NIV
This would be a busy day for the disciples as Jesus had them preparing for the evening Passover meal. But they had no idea just how important that meal would be. Because it this meal would be the beginning of the world being changed forever.
At the Passover Meal, Jesus would institute a memorial to Him that would be observed by every Believer until He comes to take His children home to heaven. We would come to call it the Lord’s supper, Communion or Eucharist meaning thanksgiving.
On this night Jesus would tell them of a new Covenant that would be made by not only His blood for the forgiveness of our sins that would reconcile us back to God. But also the giving of His body so that we could be healed everywhere the enemy tries to destroy us.
Every time we drink the from the Communion cup we are to remember all our sins have been forgiven, past, present and future. We also are to remember that we also now have dominion over everything sin. The second part of Communion is the bread to remind us that Jesus literally exchanged His life for ours. When we accept Him, we now have received everything He is so we can say as He is, so are we in this world.
Transformation thought: Jesus is the One who gave us the first Thanksgiving.
