“Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.” Luke 10:42 TPT
When Jesus said this He not only meant it to happen while He walked the earth, but for all time. How much more these days is it important to heed to what Jesus was saying. Spending time in His presence is essential for so many reasons, just like when this account happened.
When you really look at what is happening you can see yourself in these two sisters. One is being pushed and pulled all over the place. I can just picture her, because way too often it’s me! I’m all over the place, turning here, going there, answering a question, thinking about the next thing that needs to be done, is everyone doing what they are supposed to be, etc. I never enjoy those times, I endure them and truthfully everything that happens is a blur. No matter how well prepared I think I am, it happens, I go into hyperdrive, I’m tense, stressed out physically and emotionally. I’m sure at times I must look zoned.
On the other hand, when I have those Mary moments, I remember them with longing. I feel relaxed just thinking about the love and joy I felt. My mind was clear and ready to drink in all my Lord has for me to absorb and it never seems like enough. I feel energized in every way, because my mind and heart are at peace and rest, I can withstand whatever the enemy tries to throw at me, because I can hear His voice better. I know I’m not alone, I know His presence is always with me. I always feel prepared for whatever comes my way because it’s not by might or power, but by His Spirit.
Although I may still have my Martha moments, I’m making more and more time to have Mary moments. How about you? I think we all need to become more intentional to find more time with our best friend, Jesus and just sit at His feet.
