Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do miracles among you.” Joshua 3:5 NASB
In 1872 D.L. Moody met British Evangelist Henry Varley. During their conversation Varley said, “Moody, the world has yet to see what God will do with and for and in and by the man who fully and wholly is consecrated to God.” Those word resonated in Moody’s mind and heart as he crossed back over the Atlantic he recalled how every deckboard seemed to be engraved as well as every stone once He reached the States, “Moody, the world has yet to see what God will do with a man who is fully consecrated to God.” Those words not only changed D.L. Moody’s life, but countless lives and history because he took them to heart and decided to not only hear them, but do it.
What God did through D.L. Moody, he can do for each one of us who’s willing to consecrate ourselves to God. The definition of consecration is, to be set apart, to be designated for a special purpose, to be completely dedicated to God. In today’s Scripture God told the Israelite’s to consecrate themselves, for He was going to have them walk across the Jordan (during the flood season) into the Promised Land, and they did. For when the Priests with the Ark stepped into the water, it stopped flowing and was held back so they could walk across on dry ground. He wanted them to pray, know and believe that He was going to do what He said, just like He did at the Red Sea.
And so it still is today, God still reminds us of His faithfulness to those who are willing to set themsleves apart by spending time in His presence seeking Him and His plans and direction to live out His will. Yet we find ourselves having a difficult time believing that God can still do the impossible. We always want to help Him out with our own plans but when we try to do that, it never works out well and never has. Ever!
We will never see all that God has planned and is willing to accomplish through us until we are willing to give our hearts and ourselves to God totally and fully. This means we no longer call the shots, we just follow the directions no matter how odd or inconvenient they may seem. We need to remember that God is leading us to something greater than we can do ourselves and it will be so amazing that He will get the glory. There will be many times we won’t understand God’s ways, it’s then we need to remember that God knows the beginning from the end and He knows how to make all the pieces of our lives fit. Relax, let Him who sees all, lead and direct then listen and follow through. When God is with you, who can be against you and stand? Now go and walk out the improbable and impossible!
