I’ve written this letter to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you will be assured and know without a doubt that you have eternal life. Since we have this confidence, we can also have great boldness before him, for if we present any request agreeable to his will, he will hear us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we also know that we have obtained the requests we ask of him. 1 John 5:13-15 TPT
The other day I was talking with someone about the wastefulness of many expiration dates. First of all most of the products expiration dates aren’t because they are spoiled, but rather can’t guarantee freshness after that date. Now some of the expirations dates are necessary like with certain produce, dairy and meats, and to our benefit we can get some good buys if we find them a day or two before those dates. And I have bought some of those meats and even other products that have already “expired” and they were perfectly fine for days sometimes even weeks afterwards. So who makes up these dates? Are they useful? Considering all the hungry people in the United States especially these days, are most of them really beneficial? I won’t hesitate buying something fresh close to the expiration date or a packaged non- perishable that has expired, but I would never eat anything out of a dumpster! Something created for good, so often goes to the extreme to the detriment of many.
But, after that conversation, I read where Israeli researchers were growing date plants from seeds they uncovered that were over 2000 years old! Apparently they have no expiration date! It makes me wonder how many seed packets have gotten thrown out because they “expired”? We are so blessed to know there is something else that doesn’t expire, the eternal life we receive when we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord. Often we mistaken eternal life to mean in the future. But the Greek word aionios means perpetual, past, present and future. How awesome is that! It means what we read in Scripture about what exists in heaven, can exist hear. In that light the first part of the Lord’s Prayer that says Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven becomes more clear. We need to stop living wanting to see the the wonders of heaven, and start living them now, here on earth! Think about all we’ve been missing out on, because we think all the benefits of eternal life is just for heaven. It’s time to use what has been given to us, walk in the victory Jesus died to give us now and forever.
