The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17
In our preparation for Easter, we’ve been looking at Scripture that tells us the reasons that Jesus came to earth as a baby. His living in this world in a human body gave him the ability to be an example to show us how to live through Him once He was back in heaven. Last week we learned He came as Light and Hope. Light to reveal and show us our need for a relationship with Him in order to live a life of victory, which then gave us the hope that even in the darkest times, He would see us through. In Luke 4 we read that He came to preach the Good News to the poor and set the captive free, to deliver the oppressed and sight to the blind, both physically and spiritually. Jesus was the most real person ever! After all He told us in this world we were going to have trouble, but He has overcome the world! And He was going to help us be overcomers also.
This week we learned that Jesus came as grace and truth. Truth to show us God’s standard for us to live and grace so that through Him we would be able to live towards that standard. Jesus is Truth so He couldn’t compromise on it, but when He revealed truth to someone, He also tempered it with grace. He didn’t zero in on their sin, but revealed the truth to them with grace and love that led them to change.
Jesus works with us the same way today, He wants us to know how much He loves us, so much, He doesn’t want us to stay the same. He wants to reveal the places in us that are keeping us bound and captive and missing the abundant life He died to give us. He is always ready to answer us when we ask Him to help us live this life, by forgiving us and empowering us with His Holy Spirit to not only achieve change in our own lives, but to impact and influence all those who we know.
