The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29
I’m sure most of you have heard the old weather proverb for March, In like a lion, out like a lamb or vice-versa. But where did it come from? Well some think it goes as far back as the late 1600’s, when it was published in the Catalogue of English Proverbs as “March hack ham comes in like a lion, goes out like a lamb”. But the most favored one is astronomical in nature and the position of the constellations. Where in the beginning of the year Leo the Lion is on the Eastern Horizon and at the end of March Aries the Ram is on the Western horizon. There is even one that says Jesus comes in as the Sacrificial Lamb and will return as the Lion of Judah.
Although none of them are very accurate as far as the weather goes, the last quote is true. Jesus did come as the Sacrificial Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. And He will come back as the Lion of Judah to set up His reign on this earth at the end of the tribulation. In March we are reminded that Easter is coming and for us to focus more on exactly what Jesus accomplished for us. Yes, He did come to forgive us of our sins, so we can be reconciled back to the Father. But He also gave us His victory over sin by giving us back the dominion the devil stole from us in the Garden of Eden. He gave us the victory over death and hell. And when He sent His Holy Spirit He enabled us to live as He did.
Most often we associate the Lion of Judah and His second coming, but He came out of the tomb as the Lion of Judah for He showed He conquered everything that was trying to destroy us. What an encouragement and hope, that whatever is trying to destroy or hinder us has been disarmed and no longer has power over us. How awesome is our God!
