O God, how extravagant is your cherishing love!
All mankind can find a hiding place
under the shadow of your wings. Ps. 36:7
If we want to be honest, most of us have wanted to run away and hide from time to time. And some mornings, I do! When the dogs are ready to get up, between 5 and 5:30 AM, they think I should too and some days, I just pull the covers over my head and pretend they’re not there and buy myself a few more minutes to wake up.
But then there are days, weeks even months when every day is a struggle just to function. Life feels just to hard to live and it’s not worth the effort. We feel unloved, underappreciated, taken for granted and misunderstood. So what do we do when we feel like that and have responsibilities and others who are depending on us? Running away and hiding, although looking like a good option, will only lead to more problems and stress.
Today’s verse tells us that that there is a place for us to go, under the shadow of the wings of God. In the Hebrew wings is in reference to the wings of the Cherubim on the Mercy Seat. The foreshadow of the cross, where Jesus provided our salvation. A place of protection, provision, peace, safety, deliverance, health and restoration. What a wonderful place to go when we’re feeling like we’re lacking in all those areas. A place where we can let go of what we’re feeling and grasp on to what we know, the extravagant cherishing love God has for us.
Notice the verse says for all mankind, this love and provision is available for everyone, but you need to receive it, by telling Jesus you believe He is the Son of God and He rose from the dead to forgive you of your sins. Then receiving the forgiveness, love, grace and mercy He’s offering you. He longs to be your hiding place, why not accept Him and all He has to offer.
