While he was with them, he declared, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait there for what my Father promised, which you heard about from me. Acts 1:4
Yesterday began what we know to be the ten day waiting period for Holy Spirit to come upon the disciples. And although the number ten holds significance in the Hebrew language meaning complete kingdom, body, congregation, group. The symbol is a hand, representative of the powerful hand of God that is ever present in our lives giving blessings The letter itself looks flame soaring higher, a soul longing to untie with God. All of which point to Holy Spirit empowering and beginning the Church. And although the disciples would have known those things being Jewish, still would probably not have realized it would only be ten days of waiting. Therefore; they were willing to wait until what today’s verse said would happen. So today was already day two of an undertermined wait.
Now put that into perspective with us today. We have a difficult time waiting on God for three days without a response. Imagine being willing to wait for what was promised indeifinitely. And they had no technology to help them pass the time. So what did they do? Acts 1:14 sheds some light on it, saying they were of one mind and devoted in prayer. One of the answers to those prayers was how to replace Judas and with whom. The disciples were continuing the preparation of receiving Holy Spirit, but now without Jesus being physically with them. Instead they were realizing they still could experience His presence by remembering and considering all the things they learned from Him and through the word, just like us. Perhaps we should take some time to remember and consider all the ways Jesus has shown Himself to us through experience and His word.
