They taught you to change the way that you live. You must put away the nature that you had before. That old nature deceived you. As a result, you wanted to do things that would destroy you. Instead, let God’s Spirit make you think in a new way. Take up the new nature that God has prepared for you. That nature is like God’s own nature. Then you will live in a truly good way that pleases God. Ephesians 4:22-24
Saying changing the way we think is easier said than done, is an understatement. Mainly because trying to undo years and probably decades of thinking a certain way doesn’t happen overnight, especially when there is something that always seems to be pushing against it. We need to realize that although through Holy Spirit we have the power to change our thinking, there is an enemy who doesn’t want us to do that. He knows if we change the way we think his hold and sway over us will be destroyed. So what are we supposed to do?
Listen to, read, learn, and declare Scripture. That’s correct, although it goes against everything in us to take control, we need to let go and let the power of The Word take over. Now, I know you’re probably thinking, but I still need to do something. And you’re correct you do, you need to see the Word as more than mere words on a page. According to John 1:14 they became flesh and dwelt among us. They are Jesus Himself, that’s why they are alive and can cut through anything. And once they are declared in faith, they will never return void.
Replacing our negative, wrong and toxic thoughts with the true and powerful Word of God Himself are more powerful than the ones that the enemy uses to deceive us. So powerful, that they eventually void and replace the words trying to destroy us. Notice I say eventually because it took time for those wrong thoughts to take hold. So too, it will take some time to remove and replace them. But with God’s Word being so powerful the turnaround time will take place more quickly and with consistent countering we will be set free.
Are you ready and willing to take on the challenge that will show the power of the accomplished work of Jesus in our lives? Then step out in faith, speak His Word over every area of your life, and let Jesus take you farther than you could ever imagine.
