As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.” Genesis 8:22 NLT
As the old song goes, “Baby it’s cold outside” and many are saying that’s an understatement. Really, why are we so surprised? After all we live in the Northeast and it is March. This week has been a roller coaster ride in every way, with the news from Ukraine and Russia, gas prices and even the weather, from 70 dgrees to snow to 36 degree high for Sunday. But really why do we act surprised and complain about the cold, only to forget about how we didn’t like it when it gets really hot and then we complain about that! As humans we are seldom happy over things that are out of our control. We always want things different from what they are. God reminds us in His word that there will always be cold and heat and summer and winter. It reminds us that we may not be able to change things like the weather, but we can change our attitude towards those things and as Chuck Swindoll once reminded us that life is 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we respond to it. So, since spring is still officially only 8 days away we need to allow God to transform and renew our minds (Romans 12:2) by looking at some of the positive things we’re experiencing; such as having a warm place to go, a bed to sleep in, time to spend with our families and friends, feeling the warmth of a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate in our hands, etc. When we start counting our blessings, it becomes easier to tolerate the things we don’t like and can’t control. Try it, you’ll see that everything begins to look more hoepful.
