“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. Joshua 3:3-4a NIV
I love to watch the excitement of a child as they are poised to leap into the arms of a waiting adult. The giggling and laughter that fills the air as their feet leave the ground and begin to fly through the air. They aren’t thinking about the unknown space between the safety of the take off and the waiting arms to land in. They just stay focused on the one who knows where they are, and who will be their landing place. The joy that is expressed when they land safe and sound, is of them saying, “let’s do it again!” Oh to be like a leaping child, not worrying about the unknown, they just keep focusing on the place where they were going, into the safety of waiting arms.
Today’s passage shows us that God wanted the Israelites to remember since they didn’t know where going and they have never been there before they needed to focus on Him and His leading. We are no different from the them. When we step out into the unknown, we too don’t know the way or where we’re going, but He does. He knows the many distractions along the way, the detours, ruts and ditches that get us stuck and keeping us from reaching the place He has waiting for us. When we keep our focus on Him and follow the map of His Word we can reach or destination safely even if the enemy tries His best to deter us.
Don’t let the space of the unknown between the take off and the landing because he promised never to leave you nor forsake you, especially in the unknown territory. Keep your eyes on Him, he knows the way.
