He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24
It always was a puzzle to me, why Believers have such a difficult time believing God wants them to be healed and live in divine health. After all, these same people never question their eternal life through their salvation. Especially since most people don’t have a complete transformation the moment they accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Although our spirits are reconciled back to God and are realigned with His Spirit, our souls need to be restored gradually as we deepen our relationship with Him. Paul put it this way in Philippians 2:12b-13.Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him, TLB. Really look at that passage, Not only does He give us the free will to work it out, but He also gives us the power to do it and the desire to choose what pleases Him. Nothing of ourselves everything of Jesus.
The only way that this could happen is because Jesus bore our sins, so we could die to sin and live a righteous life because we have become the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. Our righteousness is not our own, when God looks at us, He sees the righteousness of His Son Jesus! And by His stripes we have been healed. Our healing in every area of our lives was purchased by Jesus’ stripes and on the cross and by His righteousness, we can receive it. Nothing of ourselves, nothing we have to do, only to receive and believe that it is ours through His so great a salvation.
Our only “work” is to trust, rest and believe in the person and sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Perhaps that’s why it’s so hard for us to accept, because it isn’t about us and that flies in our faces. No more guilt and condemnation that we don’t have enough faith, because according to Galatians 2:20 we “have the faith of the Son of God”. No wonder faith as small as a mustard seed can move a mountain! It’s time we embrace the truth of the Word and let it transform our hearts and minds and receive all that Jesus accomplished for us in His death and resurrection.
