Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Lately I have spoken with several people who say they are so tired, but I share with them how several years ago I learned while studying for a sermon that “being tired” doesn’t truly describe what they are experiencing. In the Greek tired speaks more of the physical as being exhausted of strength for a time. Weariness speaks more to the physiological, being exhausted mentally and emotionally over an extended period of time. In other words, when your tired you can get some rest and be restored. When you’re weary, something or someone is wearing you down because you can’t rest from it and be restored. And if not dealt with, eventually your mental weariness, will become physical weariness.
This is why Scirpture warns us to guard against weariness and not ot get weary. Satan is a master at attacking our minds and emotions and wins by wearing us down by repeatedly discouraging us with a situation or circumstance. Before we know it we have no strength to deal with it, or anything else any longer. The only remedy for weariness is going to Jesus. He is waiting to meet with us and give us what we need to become rested, strengthened and restored agian. Start today by making decieions to know not only in your head, but in your heart that Jesus loves you more than we can ever know. He will help us defeat our enemy and restore us mind body and soul.
