“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! Deuteronomy 30:19
There once was an anti-drug commercial that stated; “The mind is a terrible thing to waste.” How true that is, because a wasted mind means a wasted life is sure to follow. Every day when we wake up our brain has grown new baby nerve cells in a process called neurogenesis. This means every time we awaken God has given us the ability to start anew. To let go of the things that hindered us yesterday, and begin again.
He has given us the ability to change the way we think, now we have to choose to think either about life giving things that lead to blessings and a prosperous life or about death that brings curses and destruction. Now reading this the correct answer is quite obvious. But everyday many of us choose death, even though Galatians 3:13 reminds us that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us! That’s correct, we throw away the opportunity to let life and blessings flow in and out of our lives. Simply by choosing not to change the way we’ve been thinking. And that choice not only affects us, but others.
This is true for all of us, because everyday we get the chance to learn more about Jesus and become more like Him. This choice has nothing to do with our circumstances, past, present or future. Rather it’s a choice to release us from the past, release blessings into our present and hope for our future. What are we waiting for? Let’s choose life! Think about Jesus and all He has provided for us. His love, His grace, His mercy, His patience with us. The beauty that is all around us. The ability to share Him with others with a simple smile or hello, an act of kindness or show of compassion. During this week we will focus on what to think about and how to go about replacing the toxic thoughts that have so hindered us. God made a way for us to overcome death, so let’s take it!
Transformation thought for the day: What if you began to expect the best from any situation? Isn’t it possible that you could write new chapters in your life with happy endings? Suspend your disbelief? Take a leap of faith? After all, what have you got to lose but misery and lack? Sarah Ban Breathnach
