Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Hebrews 13:5 AMPC
Whenever I’m feeling fearful, alone, worried, unsure and confused this is one of my favorite go to verses. I know it starts out talking about money, but it really isn’t about money at all. Rather, it’s about what the love of money, which if we love it has become an idol because of what we think it can give us; and the emotions and destructive thoughts it produces. Then it takes an unexpected turn and tells us to be satisfied with our current circumstance and what we have. But what if we don’t like our circumstance or what we have?
That’s the point, the rest of the verse tells us whether we have money or we don’t, whether we like our circumstances or not or what we have or what we lack, none of those things can really give us what we need. And what we really need when push comes to shove no matter where we are in life is to know we are loved and feel secure and protected. So often we try to find that in other human beings, but because they’re flawed just like us, they often let us down. The only One who can truly give us what we so desperately need in this life is the One who created us our Abba Father and He wants us to know no matter what we are going through, the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between He’s with us, He’s got our backs, He has a plan, He knows the way to lead us through and out even if it’s a mess of our own making.
So I don’t know as you’re reading this if you’re going in, going through, coming out or about to go into something you are not alone and even if you don’t feel Him, He is there and I encourage you to read this verse to remind you how much you are loved and even in your darkest times, He is the light that will shine to show you the way out. We are living in strange and unusual times where we see supernatural things happening all around us. We are so blessed to have a Supernatural God who is with us 24/7/365.
