They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Matthew 2:11
So far the Wisemen have taught us to not only read the Scriptures, but study them, and to believe what we read and learn with all our hearts. Today we are learning how important worship is and it is more than a song. I love that verse of The Heart of Worship by Matt Redman that says; I’ll bring You more than a song, For a song in itself is not what You have required. You search much deeper within through the way things appear, you’re looking into my heart. Remember Jesus Himself challenged us to consider our motives when He said, ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Matthew 15:8).
Today’s verse tells us that they bowned down and worshiped Jesus not only with their knees, but with their hearts. They learned through Scripture that this child wasn’t going to be King, but was born “the King of the Jews” and He was going to turn the world upside down. The world had never seen a King like Him nor will we ever again, because His Kingdom has no end.
The Jewish people should have known better than anyone the exact purpose the Messiah was coming for, and it wasn’t to overthrow the Roman government. It was to seek and save all who are lost. To to bring Good News to the poor, that captives will be set free, the blind will see, and the oppressed will be set free. Yet they missed their Messiah because all they could see was what was happening and what they were feeling. Sound familiar? The world is experiencing much the same thing and on a much larger scale than when Jesus first entered the world. We needed Him then and we sure need Him now. He is still reaching out to people to accomplish the same things. And those who receive what He came to give us will know Him in a way that will deepen their relationship with Him. We’ll better understand what His birth, life and death has provided for us. And we will experience peace, wisdom, faith, love and grace beyond what the world has to offer.
When we experience that intimate relationship with Him, we can’t help but worship Him with our entire being not just with acts of singing and kneeling, but our soul’s crying out to Almighty God who also is our Abba Father. Let’s take a cue from the Wisemen, to worship Him with everything we are, because we know Who He is.
