You will have to live with the consequences of everything you say. What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words. Prov. 18:20-21 GNT
I don’t know about you, but that verse has a powerful impact on anyone who reads it. Why? Because we know it’s true through experience. So if that’s the case, why do we find ourselves saying things we wish we could take back? Most times it’s out of habit. Others out of emotion and stress. But whatever the reason, our words all too often are our own worst enemy. Have you ever said something like, “You’re so stupid!”, “I’m always broke”, “You never do anything right”, “I hate my job”, “it’s going to be a really bad day” and my persoanl favorite “I knew it, I knew it was going to happen!” Yes, it did, because you spoke it into being.
We all say things like that and we need to stop it! It’s one thing to speak negativity and destruction over ourselves, but we don’t stop there we speak it over others, our spouses, out children, out coworkers, people who serve us in various capacities. Then we sit and wonder why our lives are in the shape they’re in. It’s the beginning of the new year so make a plan to begin to consider what you’ve said and how you’re going to change what you are saying.
This is why declaring the Word of the Lord is so important, becuase honestly, we can’t make that change ourselves, the change has to be made in our hearts. The only One who can transform our hearts is God. When we begin to speak His Word it gets into our hearts and transforms it and the way we think and speak. In Matthew 12:24 Jesus told us that what we hold in our hearts will comes out in our words, and by the way that includes lying and the way you say it. So next time you say something you wish you could take back. Stop, go to the root in your heart, confront it and allow God’s Word to heal you and before you know it, you will be speaking words of life and success over yourself and others.
