I made you king over Israel. I freed you from the fist of Saul. I gave you your master’s daughter and other wives to have and to hold. I gave you both Israel and Judah. And if that hadn’t been enough, I’d have gladly thrown in much more. 2 Samuel 12:7-8
Lately Holy Spirit has been speaking to me about prayer and how much we so often neglect this awesome blessing God provided for us to keep in communion with Him. Yes, I said communion instead of communication, simply because that’s how intimate of a relationship our Abba longs for with us.
Today’s passage is from the confrontation Nathan had with David about the Bathsheba and Uriah fiasco. Probably because of the familiarity with the account and the focus on the adulatory and murder we miss what God was saying to David. He was reminding him that he was where he was and had what he had, because God gave it to him. But he forgot that and began to believe where he was and what he had was because his own doing. The amazing part is that God actually was telling him if he wanted more, he should have gone to God and asked for it and he would have gotten it.
This is important for us to remember, because as long as David was relying on and in communion with God, his longings and desires aligned with God’s for him. But when he stopped having communion with him even about his most intimate desires of his heart, he was where he shouldn’t have been, at the palace instead of the battlefield and he took what wasn’t his, another man’s wife. And we are no different, when our prayer time becomes more interactional than intimate, we become self focused and blind to things that are trying to destroy us. What is the desire of your heart? Get in communion with Abba tell Him your most intimate secrets and desires, and wait for Him to answer you as only He can and begin to experience a life filled with the goodness of God beyond your wildest dreams.
