Moab is My washpot;
Over Edom I will cast My shoe;
Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.” Psalm 60:8
Before indoor plumbing and sinks, people used what they called washpots to wash their hands, feet, rinse things off, wash clothes and generally clean things up. In other words it washed the dirt and filth away so the articles could be used again.
Here God is using an entire nation of people to wash Israel. Once again they have wandered away from God and His ways to do their own thing. The Moabites were the proverbial thorn in Israel’s side, because they were always in opposition and fighting with them. So God decided to use the adversity to draw Israel back to Him for help.
So who’s your washpot? Who is your fly in the ointment, or sandpaper that just rubs you the wrong way? Perhaps God is using them to help smooth your rough edges that are keeping you stuck in a rut, a bad habit. Or maybe it’s a what, a circumstance or situation that might be teaching you patience or help you deal with your anger or frustration. The washpot was a very valuable tool that helped clean things up and make them useful again. So why not consider that the person, or thing that is frustrating you may actually be helping you become the person God always created you to be and thank God for them.
