For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear is powerful it can cause havoc and bring confusion. Literally stop things from happening and bring life as we know it to a stand still. It is the source of auto-immune diseases and can cause the breakdown of our bodies and minds. We have seen all these things to be true over the last several years in societies around the world. Why? Because fear is a tool used by the enemy and he is using it very effectively.
But God gave us tools to counter evil. He gave us Holy Spirit power, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead (Rom. 8:11) who also gives authority and power over the enemy (Luke 10:19 ). But the true power over fear is love. 1 John 4:18 tells us “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” Why is God’s love so powerful over fear? Because when we know how much God loves us, we also have His peace in all situations and circumstances that may come against us. Even though all things around us may be screaming for us to be afraid, we declare that we have been loved with an everlasting love (Jer. 31:3). We can stand in confidence knowing greater is the One who is in us, than the one who is trying to destroy us (1 John 4:4).
And through knowing how loved and powerful we are in Jesus, our minds are calmed and steadfast as we read, declare and meditate on His Word. We can look at the world and instead of seeing it as in upheaval and chaos, we become part of the answer to overcome the evil we see at work all around us and we can boldly face it head on for as David said in Psalm 27:1 Whom shall I fear? The Lord is my Light and Salvation, He is the strength of my life, so of whom shall I be afraid? And our answer should be NO ONE or nothing, they should be afraid me and the One living in me!
