Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Colossians 3:10
We talk a lot about being transformed through Holy Spirit who comes to live inside us when we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18). And well we should, because as Paul said, we are being changed from glory to glory. But today’s scripture reminds us we are also being renewed.
Renewal means that something already has to exist. God wants us to see, that He sees us and things differently than we see ourselves and the things of this world. He sees us as He always created each one of us to be, special and unique in our own ways. As we grow in our relationship with Him and get to know Him in deeper and more intimate ways, He renews us from the corruption this world that has inflicted upon us into who He created us to be.
If you think that’s impossible, then think about people in Scripture who proved it to be possible. Moses, who was a stutterer, and a murderer, who asked God who am I that you would want me? But God told him He was going to lead His people into freedom. Gideon, who was hiding in a winepress from the Midianites threshing wheat so they wouldn’t steal it, yet God called him a mighty man of valor. Ruth was a hated Moabite, but God saw her as part of the line and linage of David and Jesus. Rehab a prostitute, but God saw a woman who was willing to put her life and that of her family on the line to save the Israelite spies. And become part of the genealogy of Jesus. And Paul, a man bent on destroying the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His followers, but God saw a man who would be His greatest voice in the foundation of the Church. And of course David, a shepherd boy, an adulterer and murderer, yet God saw a man after His own heart.
So what about you? How do you believe God sees you in spite of all your short comings? Ask Holy Spirit to help you see yourself through the eyes of your Abba as He transforms, restores and equips you to fulfill His purposes. And you will see the lives of those around you be impacted, influenced and changed as they come to know Jesus through you.
