The Lord spoke his word to me, saying: “Human, speak to your people and say to them: ‘Suppose I bring a war against a land. The people of the land may choose one of their men and make him their watchman. When he sees the enemy coming to attack the land, he will blow the trumpet and warn the people. If they hear the sound of the trumpet but do nothing, the enemy will come and kill them. They will be responsible for their own deaths. They heard the sound of the trumpet but didn’t do anything. So they are to blame for their own deaths. If they had done something, they would have saved their own lives. Ezekiel 33:1-5 NCV
Yesterday the new God’s Not Dead In God We Trust movie came out in theaters. As I watched the trailers and listened to reviews of the movie, I heard some what I think is astonishing information. Although I knew many Christians chose not to vote, I had no idea how many. Out of the American Christians who are eligible to vote, 15 million aren’t registered to do so and 40 million sit it out. Why? Because neither candidate checks all their boxes, there’s something about both they don’t like. Here’s my question, since when did an election to pick a person to lead, direct and run our country become a personality contest? What happened to know a candidates past political record, their convictions, their policies and platforms? Not to believe everything you hear and read from the news media, but to get the truth from non-partisan sources. And then ask yourself which one is closest to our Judeo-Christian principles.
Today’s passage talks about the watchman, who looks out for the enemy and is responsible for alerting the people of coming danger. The people then have a choice to make to respond to the warning and protect themselves or ignore it put themselves in peril and possible death. The watchman has sounded the alarm over the past several decades that we are regressing from out Judeo-Christian principles this amazing nation was founded on. And we have seen the erosion of decency, respect and order in all things and has brought in division and confusion. This in turn has brought mental health crisis, especially in our youth along with physical health epidemics such as diabetes and auto-immune diseases that is destroying our citizens and our futures.
The bottom line is, those Christians who either aren’t registered to vote or just won’t engage because the “perfect Christian candidate” isn’t on the ticket is like the people who won’t heed the warning from the watchman and it will be to not only their own detriment but to all of us. Voting is a wonderful privilege of being a citizen of this great nation. But it also is being the salt and light Jesus called us to be in our country. As John Stuart Mill so aptly said, “Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.” And James 4:17 reiterates that sentiment, Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. Let us pray that all Believers this year will step up to the plate and vote for the person who better represents our Creator’s heart and His original intent for mankind.
