Let the words from the book of the law be always on your lips. Meditate on them day and night so that you may be careful to live by all that is written in it. If you do, as you make your way through this world, you will prosper and always find success. Joshua 1:8
This verse opens by telling us to say the words found in the Book of the Law, but what is the Book of the Law referred to here. It is the Book comprised of the first five Books of the Bible and called the Pentateuch meaning five or more commonly known as the Torah. When we hear the word “Law” in Scripture we most likely think of the Ten Commandments, but we need to remember there is so much more for us to speak about.
The next sentence tells us to mediatate on them day and night. Now meditation has become misinterpreted, in Hebrew it is difined as to ponder, speak, study, reflection, devotion, mutter and imagine. I love the last one, imagine. How alive the Word becomes when we allow ourselves to imagine what we are saying and that it is God speaking to us, showing us the way and what we can expect and have. Because, it goes on to say that when we live by what is written we will have success and prosperity as we live in this world!
How awesome is that? God never intended for the Law to be list of do’s and dont’s, but five books to show how much we need Him and His amazing mercy, grace and love for us no matter what. He wanted us to know Him and His ways so we could see how profitable it is for us to follow the Creators guide to success in every area of our lives, just as He did for all those who came before us and many remembered in Scripture for us to learn from.
Take time this year to get into the Scriptures, especially the ones you never read before, guarranteed you will find a treasure you will never want to give up, because its Truths are priceless.
