You want things, but you don’t get them. So you kill and are jealous of others. But you still cannot get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t get what you want because you don’t ask God. Or when you ask, you don’t receive anything, because the reason you ask is wrong. You only want to use it for your own pleasure. James 4:2-3
Why don’t we ask God for what we want and need more? Perhaps it’s because we just don’t believe He will answer us the way we want. Or we have that false humility thing going on that we need to work to get it ourselves, after all He’s already done so much for you. Come on be honest, most of us have been there. Or we think why bother God with this, it’s not important, I can do it.
But, the truth is God wants us to ask Him, so that He can protect us and give us what we need. In 2 Samuel 12 Nathan is confronting David about his adultery with Bathsheba. And the Lord reminded David that everything he had, He gave him. So if he wanted more, why didn’t he just ask and he would have given it to him. Hmmm, isn’t that interesting? Look at the real root of the problem, David forgot, who his source and provider was and so he took matters into his own hands.
Jesus always knew who His source was, and that was His Father. When He would pray, He was taking the need to Him, knowing He would give Him exactly what He needed.. When He prayed in the Garden asking if there was a better way, He knew the answer would be what needed He and that His Father would give Him the strength, comfort and love that would carry Him through. In John 17 Jesus prayed for Himself, His disciples and us to be one like Him and His Father were one. Why? Because He knew we would need that same kind of connection He had with God to live victoriously in this world.
Next time we have a need or even a want. Let’s take it to Jesus, because He knows exactly what we need, not only for ourselves, but to help others, just like Jesus did.
Transformation Thought: Jesus taught us to remember our Father is our source and the answer for everything.
