“Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.” Genesis 22:5
After reading about Abraham taking Isaac to Mount Moriah, my cousin couldn’t get off her mind how Abraham said to his servants “we” will come back. He knew what God was asking of him, yet he believed they would both go home together. We talked about the different scenarios that were possibly going through Abraham’s mind.
First and foremost He remembered the promise God made to him, that he would be the father of many nations. How could that happen if Isaac’s life wouldn’t be spared since he was the child of promise. He also remembered how God hated killing, especially human sacrifice. But even if he was wrong on that point, and he did sacrifice Isaac, that God could bring him back to life. The bottom line of all these thoughts was Abraham believed and trusted God to keep His promise. Why? Because He had shown His faithfulness to Abraham so many times before.
Monday night when we went to bed, she asked if I thought God would be faithful to her too? I said yes, then she said, but how, because she didn’t have the faith of Abraham. I told her that all she needed was faith as small as a mustard seed. She was shocked especially when I explained it wasn’t how much faith she had, as much as Who her faith was in. We prayed for God to show His faithfulness to her in healing and she slept all night peacefully.
When she woke up the next morning she went to put her glasses on and realized her hands didn’t hurt. All the blisters were gone! She couldn’t believe it, but was so excited she wanted to try to eat. She had a soft boiled egg on bread and ate the entire thing! She then asked when we were going to do “our” devotion. That day she ate three small meals and a frozen snack. We talked on and off all day about what she learned that day from the devotion. She was beginning to see a Jesus she never knew existed and she was beginning to hunger and thirst after His Word. As I helped her lay down in bed after praying she said she couldn’t wait until morning. I knew why and I encouraged her to listen to some hymns as she feel asleep. Once again she slept so peacefully, I believe dreaming about what she would experience in the morning. God was revealing Himself so “we” could see Him in the most amazing ways.
