We have been having technical difficulties the past several days where the devotions have not been posting. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Hopefully we are back on track. Thank you for your understanding.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever. Psalm 118:1
In several places in Mexico an amazing natural phenomena happens, hot springs and cold springs flow side by side. Because of this many of the women take advantage of this convenience by bringing their clothes to wash in the hot water side and then rinse in the cold side.
A tourist watching this commented to the tour guide that the women must thank Mother Nature for her ample supply of clean hot and cold water. The guide smiled and replied, “Oh no Senor, there is much grumbling because she supplies no soap.”
Now you may be laughing at that, but how many times have we done just that same thing. God has given us so many blessings that have met our needs and made our lives easier. But instead of being grateful for what we have, we complain about what we don’t have. Too often we don’t even stop there, we tell God He should have given us something better! Why don’t we think that’s being ungrateful? Because it’s us. It’s always harder to see the flaws in ourselves than others. Jesus reminded us of that in Matthew 7:3-5 where he called the Pharisees hypocrites because they were trying to take a splinter out of others eyes, while having an entire pole sticking out of their own!
Today ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you areas in your life where ungratefulness is found. He will help you bring things to your mind and then you can confess it to God. The Hebrew word for thanks is todah and actually comes from the root word yadah which means to confess. Thank Him for His forgiveness and then begin to thank Him for something in that area. It may be helpful to write what He has revealed to you down. This will not only help you remember but you will find yourself adding blessings to your list on a regular basis.
Take time to thank God for the ability to recall and confess His blessings and favor over your life. Remember his faithfulness by enjoying a time of communion with Him.
