Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
The other day I saw a video where there were a flock of geese standing on the side of a busy intersection with cars whizzing by looking towards the other side of the street. There was one lonely goose who never made it across with the others before the light turned and the traffic started once again. But when the traffic stopped, the entire flock went back across the street to their fellow goose to get him.
It tug at my heart and made me think about how many people in our church families, that for many reasons seem to be separated from the group. If and when we do, are we willing to go back to them, stay with them and care enough to find out what’s going on and how and why they’re separated from the rest? All too often we become so self focused we don’t even notice them missing or worse yet, we do and then do nothing about it. My friends, if geese care enough to notice one of their own was missing, looked for them and then went back onto a dangerous road to help him. Then we need to ask ourselves, what is wrong with us when we don’t.
Remember, Jesus told us to love others as He has loved us, and look what He was willing to do so we could be saved from everything that is trying to destroy us and then give us eternal life. He watches out for us and protects us, surely we can do the same for those in the family of God. And wouldn’t we want someone to come after us if we needed a listening ear, a helping hand and encouragement?
