“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. Matthew 13:3
The Parable of the Sower is very familiar to many people and some focus on the seed, some on the sower, some on the harvest and some on the soil. When we think about it, the sower is the same, the seeds are the same, it’s the soil that’s different, but is it?
The first soil is hard and the seed can not go down into it, so the the seeds can be taken away. It’s like the word, people can hear it, but their hearts are hard and they don’t really listen to it, so the enemy can take it. The second soil is rocky, and accepts the seed, and even begins to grow, but when it keeps getting hotter and it becomes drier, the plants begin to wilt and die. Again it’s like people who not only hear, but listen to the word and begin to grow in it. But then problems come or persecution and mocking of their beliefs come and because there are no roots, they stop growing. The third soil has thorns, and weeds that are choking out the plants, just like worries, cares and anxiety choke out the word and once again don’t grow.
Then there is the good soil, and it’s not different because it has something extra, but rather what it doesn’t have. It isn’t hard, rocky or has weeds and thorns and the reason is because it is tended to and cultivated, It’s not that the ground can’t get hard, have stones or weeds, it’s that they have been removed and the ground has been watered by the Word of God. When we read, hear and say the Word, we are cultivating and preparing the ground to give a 30, 60 and even 100% yield. Notice there are different yields depending upon the care of the soil. So what is the condition of your soil? Are you in the word enough to be prepared for a drought or bad weather? Can you take persecution and criticism of being a Believer? Do you know how to combat the thoughts that the enemy tries to plant in your mind and heart? Take time to consider your soils condition and know that the Scriptures will help you cultivate good soil to have a 100% yield.
