Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others]. 1 Peter 4:8
One of the hallmarks of a person saved by grace is the ability to love beyond our human definition, It is a love that can love the unloveable, forgive the unforgiveable, hope with the hopeless, share burdens with the burdened and speak words of healing to those who have hurt you, to name a few. It’s what Peter calls intense and unfailing love that functions no matter what the offense.
It covers a multitude of sins. Here the word cover in the Greek is Kalypto- which means to throw a veil of oblivion over them. Don’t you just love that? We should make it like we are unware of them ever happening. But that’s easier said than done. We appreciate when that happens to us, but we find it more difficult to extend that grace to others and without a relationship with Jesus it becomes impossible.
But when we remember how much we have been forgiven of through the sacrifice and grace of Jesus, how can we not give to others what has been given to us so freely. And how can we not b thankful and have grateful hearts of praise.
