I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him. Ephesians 1:17 TPT
The longer I’m on life’s journey with the Lord, the more He reveals things to me. I used to say, ” I think I was taught “wrong”, but was I? It was such a relief to find out I wasn’t the only one. Men of God like Dr. David Jeremiah used to teach about Job’s wife and how she was a hindrance to him instead of a help. But now he teaches about how she was going through what he was also and how it was affecting her too. Chuck Swindoll used to preach that the armor God gives us has no cover on our back, so we wouldn’t turn and run away. Now he’s teaching that God has all of us covered in all ways even when we fail.
Even though there were great Bible teachers that were teaching differently, this truly bothered me. The enemy had a great time dragging me through the mud and kept me thinking about this and even had me wonder about misleading others. Until one day I read this verse and God gently spoke to my heart and mind and told me “it’s all about going deeper with Me and understanding Me and My ways better.” As we walk with the Lord, we not only should get to know Him better, but better understand His heart and His ways. It doesn’t necessarily mean what we learned was wrong, it just wasn’t complete. Dr. Jeremiah began to see Job’s wife through the eyes of compassion instead of judgment. Chuck Swindoll began to see God protects every part of us from the enemy, there is no place He leaves us exposed and helps us use the equipment He’s provided for us. There are so many things that God has revealed these deeper things to me I can’t begin to write them all!
Reading and hearing the Scriptures is only the beginning. It is what gets us hungering and thirsting for more. Since Jesus is the Word Himself according to John 1:1-5, when we deepen our relationship with Him, He also will show us the deeper meaning of His Word. In turn that will open us up to the richness of His wisdom and enable us to live it out in such a way people will want to know Him too. The cry and prayers of our hearts as true followers of Jesus, should be to know Him more intimately so that we can see the deeper meaning of His Word, so in wisdom we can show who He is and lead others to a life with Him. How awesome is our God.
