Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. Acts 12:5
I heard a story today about David Livingstone and how he became to be the best known missionary to Africa. A missionary to Africa came back to his home church in Scotland to report and ask for more help to go back with him. Although the church was filled with older people who wouldn’t be able to go with him, he decided to give the message he planned anyway. He ended his message with “who will go”, “who will go”,” who will go”?
A small voice from behind the organ came a “I will go”. It was David Livingstone, the “Bellows Boy”, the young boy who would pump the bellows for the organ to work. And he did, he went to medical school because they needed doctors and when he graduated, he went to Africa, where he made a great impact for the Gospel. But he has an amazing account that connected Africa to this little church in Scotland.
Although many African tribes became Believers, one tribe was very resistant, to the point that the Chief sent a message that they were going to murder everyone in their compound. So they prayed for God’s protection so they could continue His work. They waited, and no one came. Years later, that Chief and his tribe accepted Jesus. At that point David asked him why him and his warriors never came that night. He said, they did, but they couldn’t attack because there were 39 giants standing around the compound!
When David went back to Scotland, he told the story. After the service the church secretary asked if he remembered the date of the planned attack. Of course he did and the secretary went to the Church Journal and looked it up, and to both their amazement there were 39 people at prayer meeting that night praying for the missionaries in their Compound! If you still think that your prayers don’t make a difference, well you better think again! And then start praying.
Today as you remember 9/11 pray for the survivors, families of those who lost their lives and for Americans to have the veil of deceptions removed and the lives to be exposed. So that once again we will stand united against the enemy trying to destroy the Biblical foundations that this great nation is built on. For we have seen that prayer does make all the difference.
