10 “And now see what the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir are doing. You would not let our ancestors invade those nations when Israel left Egypt, so they went around them and did not destroy them. 11 Now see how they reward us! For they have come to throw us out of your land, which you gave us as an inheritance. 12 O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” 2 Chronicles 20:10-12
After standing in God’s presence before the Temple, telling God how they remember his mighty acts and His Covenant with Abraham. Which because it was forever, they were calling on to rescue and save them from all their enemies. But now they were taking it a bit deeper.
Now they were reminding God that the very armies that are planning to destroy them, were spared from being invaded by Israel. And like many of us would be feeling they were being treated unfairly, after all they were left to live untouched on Israel’s inherited land. But now as mighty nations they were turning on their kindness. They were outnumbered and feeling like sitting ducks and knew their only hope was in God alone. They cried out like we so often do, “we don’t know what to do, but You do, help us!” This was a true moment of humility and trust, one we should find ourselves in more than we do. If we want to secure the victory we need to begin by humbling ourselves knowing we truly don’t know what to do. But He always does.
