Lord, you poured out blessings on your land! You restored the fortunes of Israel. You forgave the guilt of your people—yes, you covered all their sins. Interlude
You held back your fury .You kept back your blazing anger. Now restore us again, O God of our salvation.Put aside your anger against us once more. Will you be angry with us always? Will you prolong your wrath to all generations? Won’t you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? Psalm 85:1-6
Revival, we’ve heard the word and think we know the concept, but do we know what spiritual revival really is. The word revival comes from two parts, re, which means “again”; the second is vive, which means to live. So revive means to “live again” or brought back to life, or vitality. Now as the old saying goes in order to be revived, you had to be “vived” in the first place. So contrary to popular belief especially in the church revival isn’t just for the “lost”, it’s for those who are in a relationship with Jesus and have grown apart from Him. Those who once lived to be in God’s presence through prayer, worship and praise. He was their first love, but now He’s just a fleeting thought in any given day, too busy living life to spend time with the One who gave them life in the first place.
The essence of revival then is as Malachi 3:7 tells us to do, “return to God, and I will return to you.” If you have one, where is your relationship with God? Is it close? Is it waning? Is it in a state of separation? Only you and God truly know, so be honest with yourself, now seek Him, and as He promised, He will be found.
