Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, [b]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you [c]watchfully. 1 Peter 5:7
Last night our Bible Study was interrupted when one of the women got a text from her daughter telling us about a shooting in our town. When police arrived the man refused to put the gun down and to stand still. Although the police tried to use non-lethal force, because he kept coming towards them, he was shot and died at the scene. Now it was in a part that usually is quiet and off the beaten path. But these days, there seems to be no place that is off limits.
Apparently the man in his 70’s had long term health issues and left a note inside the house. At this point, there is no more information given, so the family can grieve in private, how very sad. Our hearts were heavy as we lifted up the family, the officers involved and his neighbors. But it also sparked a discussion on why have there been so many shootings and why are people feeling so hopeless? Especially since Jesus is longing for people to come to Him will all the things that are stressors in their lives and trying to destroy them. Perhaps it’s because they haven’t heard that Jesus loves them and wants to rescue and save them from effects of mankinds fall in the garden.
Beloved, we need to step up our game and start being Jesus to them. I don’t mean asking them if they want to be saved or preaching to them, I mean being Jesus to them; being kind and compassionate, taking time to listen to them. Show them we truly care enough to want to help in any way and some times that’s just saying “I’m really sorry to hear that, I understand why you feel. . ., and I know Someone who cares even more than I do.” The old adage is true, people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” And Jesus cared all the way to the cross and still does.
