So may the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts,
and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing,
acceptable before your eyes, my only Redeemer, my Protector-God. Psalm 19:14 TPT
Just about everyone’s emotions are at a fever pitch, the stress and pressure has gone on too long and it’s beginning to take its toll. Mental health issues are at an all time high, anger has become supercharged and spilling out into all areas of life. Confusion is causing fear that is becoming debilitating, and there seems to be no end in sight. So what are we supposed to do?
Meditate, that’s correct you heard me right; meditation has been scientifically proven to lessen and even stop the effects of stress. A simple saliva test can show when the hormone cortisol and peptide cytokine levels are high. Although the body produces these naturally, high levels cause havoc on our bodies and minds. Studies have proven that meditation can bring these levels down dramatically and naturally and keep them low.
Perhaps that’s why God told Joshua to meditate on His Word day and night (Joshua 1:8). When we meditate on God;s Word, our breathing changes, it becomes slower and deeper. Our minds are calmed because we’re thinking on the things of God and our bodies respond by relaxing and causing natural anti-inflammatory producers to flood our systems. Every part of our being begins to respond and heal.
The greatest natural anti-inflammatory producer interleukin-6 occurs when we experience a state of awe. How often have we read Scripture and we are just awestruck about the love of God, His mercy, His grace and forgiveness towards us. When we think about Jesus willingly laying down His diety and human comfort to be beaten beyond recognition and then be hung on the cross to die so that we might live! We can see His love and power in a sunrise and sunset or a starry and moonlit night. The changing of seasons, the beauty of a flowering garden or the purity of a blanket of snow. He is all around us if we just take time to look and focus on Him.
Maybe you have never thought about mediataing on God’s word and who He is. My friend, now is the time to begin to follow the principles God has set forth so that as Joshua 1:8 tells us that we may prosper in all ways and succeed. We may not be able to change the circumstance we’re in, but we can change the way we deal with it. And what better way than to follow the Creators recommendations of taking a verse a day and just think about it all day long, so that it will bring health to our bodies and nourishment to our bones, Proverbs 3:8. O taste and see that the Lord is good! Psalm 34:8.
