Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16 NLT
Yesterday I got an e-mail with a Facebook feed of the Coronavirus Task Force being led by Vice President Pence in prayer. The response to that picture was “We’re all screwed!”, meaning that if prayer is our first defense then we are in deep trouble. I have to admit my first thought was of when Jesus and the disciples were on their way to Jerusalem by way of a Samaritan village. The people there were anything but welcoming to Jesus and His followers, so James and John asked if they should call down fire from heaven and burn them up? But instead of saying yes, Jesus rebuked them and they went on their way to another village. I was in a “call down fire moment”, but Jesus spoke to my heart also and said once again NO! “Do not be distracted by what is being said, in My time the Truth will be revealed”. So I began to pray for all those who thought it was a good idea to mock the earnest prayer that was being offered to the only One who can annihilate this unseen virus.
He reminded me of Sunday’s sermon, that He didn’t come to put His power on display, but to walk, talk and act in the authority and power of the King of Kings. He didn’t have to prove Who He was, He knew Who He is and Whose He is. He would show the ultimate power of His Kingship by laying down His will in the Garden, saying nothing when accused of insurrection and blaspheme, being beaten beyond human recognition for no crime He had done, and hanging on a cursed cross so that in giving His life He broke the power of sin once and for all. In His time we will see His glory and authority seen by all in this crisis we find ourselves in.
We need to be like Nehemiah (6:3) when His enemies tried to distract him while building the wall. His response was, “I can not come down, I am doing a great work, why should I come meet with you? Our Vice President and apparently everyone on the Task Force knows this is not just about getting rid of the virus. It’s about seeking wisdom and guidance to make wise decisions for our citizens overall health, our economy and the general welfare of our nation not only during the pandemic, but to build back up afterwards. The best way to support our leaders at this time, is for every blood bought Believer to get on our faces and pray with them! When we seek Him and in all our ways acknowledge that He is God, and open ourselves to His leading and direction, then He will answer us!
Be angry enough to pray, not get side tracked with responding to people who just don’t understand our amazing God. Respond like royalty. a child of the King as a prince or princess and keep focused on the task at hand and watch true authority at work.
