This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! Numbers 13:27-28
Everyday we’re faced with a choice of what to focus on, the good, true and praiseworthy no matter how small it may be or the problems and bad things. The truth is if you picked the later, then that’s all you will see, even if there are good and lovely things around you.
Those who are familiar with the account of the Israelites being set free from Egypt with all their wealth and their journey are a bit critical of them. We scratch our heads and wonder why are they complaining, God parted the Red Sea and they walked on dry ground. He even closed the path behind them and killed the Egyptians chasing them. He gave them a cloud to keep them cool and protected during the day and a pillar of fire to keep them warm and safe during the night. Water came from a rock and food every morning in Manna and they still complained and wanted to go back to Egypt where they were slaves.
We don’t just arbitrarily experience life, we experience the life we focus on. If all we can see are the obstacles and problems in our way, then we’re going to believe we have a miserable life and can’t even see the good things. On the other hand if you can see the benefits and good even in the bad things, you will believe your life is is blessed. You will be able to overcome the obstacles and hindrances because you will see them as stepping stones to a better life. Renew your mind by thinking on the goodness of God and you will renew your life. And the possibilities will become limitless.
