Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. 2 Kings 6:17
Yesterday I had several leadings to the topic of the daily devotion, but although I started several of them, I just didn’t have a peace about any of them. I went to bed without a devotion to post. It wasn’t until this morning that I found out why.
As I was listening to a man give a testimony of God’s leading, and this devotion came to be. He recalled how he had been seeking to be used of God and asked Him to show him what to do. One day he was driving and one side of the street was an apartment complex, on the other a small hill, where he saw a man on one knee, looking up with a lifted hand towards heaven. God told him to stop, but in his own words, the man had long hair and looked like a hippie, so he kept driving. But God kept talking to him and finally he parked the car and walked towards the man.
As he was walking, God told him to tell the man that he was aware he lost his job, got his car repossessed the night before and he was being evicted from his apartment. He heard the direction, but didn’t follow through and just began to talk with him. The man looked at him like saying “leave me alone.” that’s when God impressed upon him again to tell him he knew what was happening to him. As he started telling him, the man startled said how could you possibly know that. He then shared how God had him see him standing and then told him all he needed to know.
At that point he began to cry and said, “I was here praying and said to God, if you are real, show yourself to me. And then you came and told me what you possibly couldn’t have known.” The man accepted Christ, through help of the church he got a new job he could get to because he was given a car so he could get a new place to live and is still serving the Lord by helping others. What a story of God’s amazing grace!
But this devotion isn’t really about that account, it’s to get us thinking about how many more of these kind of works of God go undone, because we just don’t allow ourselves to be used of God in such a way. We so often say, I don’t know why God doesn’t use me. The answer might be because we don’t hear God, because we’re just too busy with our own little world and we miss it. Or if we do hear, we think we don’t have what it takes to help. Let me assure you, if God is directing you He will give you what you need to follow through. Let’s make a decision today to stop hearing and reading about how amazing God is, and become who He uses to make the amazing happen.
Pray today, Lord open my eyes!
