If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Esther 4:14
Yesterday we learned that the account of Esther was possible because Saul refused to listen to God. Hundreds of years later Esther became queen, which placed her in a position to save her people. Salvation came to the Jews because Esther and Mordecai listened to the voice of God. And although Persian Law once made could never be changed, another law could be made to to counter act it. So although the army of Persia carried out to slaughter the Jews, they were then allowed to defend themselves against their attackers. And so an entire nation was saved.
This account is quite appropriate at “such a time as this.” We could have been born at anytime since the beginning of the world. Yet God has chosen for us to be living at such a time as this to bring the hope of salvation to all people. In order for Esther to do that, it could have cost her life, for she said, “Then I will go to the king, even though it is against the law, and if I die, I die.” But through fasting, prayer, courage and believing God who showed His power and salvation to them.
Those who are Believers in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us on the cross are now called to do the same; to fast, pray, stand in courage on God’s Word and believe that His Spirit that lives in us is greater than anything we are facing. Because of the cross we can influence the world arounc us, by continuing to share the Gospel as Jesus did, with compassion, love, mercy and grace so like the people of Persia they would see the true heart of God.
