For his “body” has been formed in his image and is closely joined together and constantly connected as one. And every member has been given divine gifts to contribute to the growth of all; and as these gifts operate effectively throughout the whole body, we are built up and made perfect in love. Ephesians 4:16 TPT
Our bodies are amazing. How all the parts of our bodies grow with us except our eyes, which stay the same size from birth. Even parts of them that for so long thought if they were injured like our brains, could never be restored. Yet medical science has found out that there is such a thing as Neuroplasticity that the bible talks about in Romans 12:2. Every part of our body has a different purpose, that when working as one can do incredible things.
No wonder Paul often referred to the body of Christ, “the Church” as a body. Today’s verse reminds us though that none of it works without the Creator, Jesus. He not only put all the pieces together, but keeps them together and equips and enables each part not to function on it’s own, but serves it’s optimal purpose when working with other parts. Think about it, our heart is the engine room, it pumps the blood through the body to give it much needed oxygen, but what if there weren’t any corpucles, veins or arteries? What if the kidneys didn’t remove toxins? There would be no need for the heart! So it is in the body of Christ there is no insignificant part, they all are needed to make the Church reach its optimal function.
So beloved of God, next time you’re feeling insignificant or just not “good enough” remember you have been given much needed gifts and abilities that makes up the body of the Church. What a beautiful picture of Jesus Christ to an “every man for himself” world.
