Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13
Today we celebrate a day to honor the men and women through this nations history that have given their lives to save the lives of others. The first Memorial, or Decoration Day as it was called was to honor those who lost their lives in the Civil War. To this day it is still the war that has taken the most lives. Now consider that it was fought not on some foreign soil but right here in our nation among our citizens.
But before long with the high cost of lives during WWI they were added to be honored, as well as every war and conflict since. After 9-11 First Responders were also added. There is a song that says, “all gave some, but some gave all” and those who gave their lives to fight against evil should be honored and remembered. Today at 3:00 PM is a time set aside to interrupt our picnics, vacations and celebrations to have a minute of silent reflection on what freedom truly costs.
This also was the time that Jesus bowed His head in reverence and honor to His Father and said “into your hands I commit My Spirit”. He bled and died so we can be set free and forgiven from sin and everything that’s trying to destroy us once and for all. So as you take time at 3:00 to remember our Military and Frist Responders who gave their all, remember Jesus who was the example of giving His all for so many.
