“For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:12, 15
How many times in our lives have we found ourselves saying, I don’t know what to do! According to Scripture, it’s not a new statement, and more importantly, the answer is still found at the same place, in the throne room of God (Hebrews 4:16).
The question in this passage came from news that three large warring tribes were coming after Israel. One would have been more than enough, but the three coming together in an alliance to destroy Israel was overwhelming. From Israel’s standpoint it was mission impossible, and to add insult to injury they were tribes that God wouldn’t let them conquer when they entered the Promised Land. Now they were poised to annihilate them, but Jehosaphate the king, had enough faith to believe God would not let that happen and called for prayer and fasting. He called all of Jerusalem together and before them stated the situation and then stated we don’t know what to do, so we’re looking to You. Basically he was saying to God, You got us into this mess, now we’re trusting you to get us out of it!
Of course the Lord’s answer, not to be afraid or discouraged because the battle was His. This is not the kind of answer most of us want to hear when we’re feeling threatened in any way. But as king, Jehosaphat, dug deep into His faith in the Lord and fell on His face and worshiped Him along with all of Jerusalem. You might be saying, “why in the world would they do something like that”? It’s because God was their only hope and they all had seen what God did in the past to protect them.
In the days we are living in, many are asking what should we do? And the answer is trust God, seek His face, worship Him in the unknown and He will show you the way and protect you. This week we will learn about the many facets of prayer and tomorrow we will see what God did with this situation and how He continues to work in our lives as He did in the lives of the Israelites.
