Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Psalm 34:9-10
When we hear the word lack, most times we immediately think of financial. But the truth is there are many ways we can lack something in our lives. We can lack in our health, relationships, jobs, stability, wisdom, direction, discernment, success and I’m sure more that you can personally think of.
But one we often forget that is foundational is spiritually. And today’s verses put that into perfect perspective, especially when we realize that the Hebrew word for fear is yirah which means awe and reverence. It’s made plain and simple that as His children we should reverence and be in awe of who He is. And then when we do we will not lack in any area of our lives.
The word for hungry is raeb, which is used to describe physical hunger as well as well as a deep longing or need, especially for God. It reveals mankind’s need and dependence on God for sustenance. Our hunger for Him is only satisfied when we feed on His word and the fruit of His salvation as we seek Him and live in His presence. The good things of this world are often selfish in nature, material and to fulfill our own needs. But the good things of God come directly from Him alone and help make us more like Him so that we can lead others to Him. It also helps us live the abundant life He died to give us while we are waiting for Him to rapture us to Him in the clouds.
