Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Luke 12:25-26
Yesterday morning they were forecasting a lot of rain, up to 2-3″ an hour and some places even more. There were flood watches and people were bracing for destructive winds and detours. Although I don’t mind storms, I have a dogs that do, so I prepared them with calming meds and then we waited. Perhaps so many people were worried, because it was so hot and humid and that usually means severe storms.
But as hot and humid as it was, although at some places there was flooding and downed trees, for the most part, the storms never came. As the cooling breeze and low humidity came with no severe weather it got me thinking. How many times have we become anxious and worry simply because something happened before under similar circumstances and then nothing came of it. We spent all that time waiting, having our peace stolen, stressing ourselves out and for what?
The truth is, it wouldn’t have changed anything. How do I know? Because the people living in Berks County did get the flooding that they usually do when they get heavy rain. But some also got some damage from fallen trees. In the end, worrying and being anxious didn’t change either outcome. So what do we do then. We trust that we prepare for what they are forecasting and then put our trust in Jesus and His leading and guiding us through, no matter what we are facing. For when we rest in Him, our peace can’t be lost. So next time you find yourself stressing over what may be, just remember to focus on Jesus and He will be your peace no matter what the forecast.
