Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. Matthew 11:29 MSG
The other day I drove by a pond with ducks and geese gliding along effortlessly. I had to chuckle as I thought about when we were growing up my sisters favorite book was I Wish I Had Duck Feet. There they were moving along what appeared to be effortlessly on top of the water. But underneath the water their feet were moving.
When we have Holy Spirit living in us, we too can be like these ducks and geese. As we rely on Him for guidance and direction and then empowerment to accomplish His leading, we too can make it look like what we are doing is effortless, when all the time we know it’s Holy Spirit helping us.
Although unseen, we can feel His encouragement and leading, along with Him sometimes holding us back from something that would hurt or even destroy us. When we consider these things, we should reconsider how important it is for us to master our listening skills as His Spirit speaks to ours. The best way to get to know His voice is to be in conversation with Him over our every day issues. As we seek Him more and more, the more familiar we will become to recognizing Him. Let us endeavor to practice hearing Him so that His voice becomes so familiar we won’t have to wonder if it is Him talking to us.
