God treated us with undeserved grace because of the Son he dearly loves, and so we should praise God. Christ sacrificed his life’s blood to set us free, which means our sins are now forgiven. Christ did this because of God’s gift of undeserved grace to us. God has great wisdom and understanding, and by what Christ has done, God has shown us his own mysterious ways. Ephesians 1:6-9 CEV
Yesterday I shared the vision God has for out church in 2025, The Year of Enabling Grace. We were reminded that the grace of God is unmerited and unearned for it is His gift to us through His Son Jesus Christ. But I left out the word undeserved so we can focus in on it today.
When we hear unmerited and unearned, it still gives us the perception of there is someway we can still be involved. However, the word undeserved, clarifies that there is nothing about us that has anything to do with God’s amazing grace. It reminds us that mankind, through Adam and Eves sin, are so steeped in it and it’s very nature lives in us that there is nothing in and of ourselves that is righteous enough to deserve to be loved and accepted by God. But for His grace that comes to us through His Son.
Mankind didn’t deserve to be loved so much, valued so much and adored so much. Why? Because in the Garden they gave this amazing life He gave us willingly to the enemy, simply because they believed God was holding out on them. It would now take the torture, suffering and death on the cross and resurrection of His Beloved Son to make a way to redeem us back. Think about it, did we deserve to be bought back since it was a conscious act against a loving, giving Father? Maybe we can talk ourselves around unmerited and unearned, but there is no way we can around undeserved. Yet through accepting His Son, His grace makes us once again able to receive such love and mercy. He no longer sees our sin and short comings because He sees His perfect Son in us.
His grace enables us not only to be loved, but to be redeemed, restored and renewed, so that we can once again be His children and daily become more like Him. Our lives are truly not about us, but all about Him. We encourage you to join us Sunday Mornings for our Sermon Series, Enabling Grace as we dig deep into what He did for us and to us and what He is doing in us and through us. Only when we see His grace as more than just forgiving us of our sins can we live in its life giving flow.
