Make them ready for your service through your truth; your teaching is truth. John 17:17 NCV
Yesterday we saw how Amy Coney Barrett was wearing the Armor of God. But there was a piece missing, a very important piece, the belt of truth. Why is it so important, because it’s what holds all the other pieces together, including the sword of the Spirit.
Today’s verse tells us that God’s truth is what prepares us for service. Serving the citizens of the United States through the Supreme Court certainly needs the truth of God as an undergirding. The best teachers are the ones who allow themselves to be taught. A teachable spirit functions in meekness and a humble spirit that subjects itself to be led and directed by God. True humility isn’t self-deprecating, but knows that God is sovereign over all. In other words, no matter how wise or knowledgeable we may become we remember who that is from and we always have more to learn.
Walking in truth makes a person authentic, what you see is what you get. What you hear from them, is what they truly believe and you don’t have to read between the lines. In short, it makes life so much easier and freeing. But what is truth? It’s not an ideology or what we hope it is. Truth is a Person, and His name is Jesus and He said that if we follow Him and His teachings, then we would know the Truth and it would set us free (John 8:32). Perhaps this is why there is so much deception and lying, because even those who say they are followers of Jesus, don’t follow His teachings and according to Jesus we then don’t know truth and we are in bondage to this world. What a sad thought, Jesus went through a night and day of torture and death on a cross so we would know the truth and be set free and we choose to live in bondage.
Jesus has already unlocked the door, repent and follow Him again, walk in the Truth and you will walk in freedom. What a blessed thought.
