Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. Galatians 6:2-3
Last week we parked cars on our parking lot for the Fair. And yes we ask for a donation to help the church. But what really is produced by it is much more than just helping us financially. Because it blesses us, we also then are obedient to the Word and bless others (Genesis 12:2), so every year we pray to be directed to a ministry or mission that needs us and give 10% of our proceeds. This year God chose The Allentown Rescue Mission. They provide safe housing, meals, clothing, hot showers, medical care, job opportunities and a chance of a life changing fresh start for men in crisis.
There is a great opportunity for outreach, as we are the hands and heart of Jesus for a lost and dying world. We don’t preach or teach, just determine to help people see the real Jesus. This year our theme verse was Galatians 5:22-23. the fruits of the Spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. To show kindness to someone who seems rushed and anxious or jump a dead battery. To be good to others by giving them a safe place to park at a reasonable price (by the way, every year we are the cheapest). To be faithful to show up and help out. To be patient when a driver is really having a difficult time parking and be gentle. Serving with joy and peace. And we have many people who come back year after year.
It’s also a place of prayer, so many park their car with a burden or illness but leave different because we have prayed for them. Yes, right there on the Lot. Words can’t describe the blessing we receive when we say Amen, and people feel a release or healing and they thank you and often say, no one has ever done that for me before. So remember, although you may have a certain purpose, don’t sell yourself short, ask Holy Spirit to show you beyond the initial purpose and see all they ways we impact others for Christ and let the blessings overflow!
